Shalini Pandey is a senior teacher in Delhi — a busy enough life that good handloom pieces matter, but time to personally hunt for them doesn’t always exist.

Shalini’s system is simple: she sees a saree she likes — in a photo, a screenshot, wherever it turns up — and sends it to Vrinda. Vrinda then goes looking for the best price and quality on that exact piece, or comes back with something even better instead.

Made to order, when she asks

A lot of what Shalini buys isn’t picked off a shelf — it’s ordered custom, direct with the weaver. It takes longer than buying something already woven, but the weavers oblige most of the time, turning out close to exactly what she asked for rather than the nearest ready-made match. That’s the detective work extending past sourcing into actually commissioning the piece.

Banarasi and Paithani, mostly

Over three to four years, Shalini has bought numerous Banarasi and Paithani sarees through Teevra, along with plenty of others besides. Both are among the more expensive, technically demanding weaves in the catalogue — which is exactly where her main praise lands: pricing.

A good price, on both ends

Shalini’s read on the arrangement goes beyond her own bargain — she’s confident it works for the weaver too, not just the buyer. “Overall am sure the buyer and the weaver both end up happy,” she says, which is close to the whole case for buying handloom directly from the source instead of through several layers of markup.
